Cattle in pasture

We breed and fatten cattle. We have two types of pastures:

  • Our natural savannah fields, which can be broken down into two types: the higher, dry fields which do not flood and the draining plains (Vazante do Castelo and Vazante do Periquito)

  • Our developed pasture that can be broken down in two categories: the unmanaged pastures (medicula and brachiara grasses) and our managed pastures which consist of 10 small pastures with top fattening grass (mombassa grass) where we have a rotation program so that the cattle spend no more than 3 days in each pasture, and the entire cycle is completed every 36 days. This is the time needed for each pasture to recover.

The government has very strong health controls on cattle farming and we must vaccinate our cattle annually at pre-defined dates. Because of this, Brazil has a clean state of health condition and can export its meat worldwide at present.

Our cattle hands regularly work our cattle to make sure they are in good health and can be moved without causing a stampede. Our cattle are very well behaved.

We move the cattle from the high land pastures to the low land planes in the dry season and vice versa during the flooding season. The other time that we move our cattle is when we take the fattened cattle to the village for slaughter, which takes around two full days each way.

From time to time, we are in the position to make arrangements for guests who know how to ride well to accompany such a drive, named locally as a “commitiva.â€
